Howdy!

I'm interested in creating an outdoor aviary for pigeons, but to be frank I'm not sure where to even get started. I have built a chicken coop/run before but I'm thinking it will be completely different in design?

Does anyone here have one? Could you share details/pictures? Any good resources to tap into?

It's been a while since I've seen this video, but its from Jack Spirko on redesigning his aviary where he kept quail. Not sure if you could get some ideas? I've never kept quail. but it seemed like a fairly easy shape.

My dear husbands pigeon house was built on stilts about waist high.

This was so that the birds could be handled easily.

Other wise it was much like a chicken house with pigeon size nest boxes.

The door was only big enough to reach in and take out one bird, so the other birds did not get out.

This is the best that I can remember.

this is awesome!! i want to follow along. I have been reading (not sure how true it is) that pigeons offer egg producing capabilities that are better than chickens for environments like mine (urban, where everything including my nosy neighbors thinks chicken is a delicacy). I have read that you can capture some "wild" urban pigeons, get them used to living in your area, and after a few months if you feed them they'll come back, and bring friends, and then you're up to your waist in eggs, no crowing, no big deal, and they'll go poop all over other peoples' cars during the day.
I am sure this plan is full of holes, but luckily for me I won't have time to think about (illegal?) capture of urban pigeons for a while, so I'll live vicariously looking at the space you're building....
