I am not an expert... but radiant heating is not about heating the air, it is about heating things. So my gut is that a high ceiling will not matter as much when it comes to radiant heat. Convection heat would be a different story.

I would never say that studying other societies and cultures is a bad thing. But I would say that many people I know, who have studied other cultures and/or traveled extensively, seem far less content with where (and sometimes who) they are. And I have seen that discontent cause many problems.

Whether it is dating, food, vehicles, houses, friends, or whatever... when you have nearly unlimited choices (thank you internet), you have to be very careful that it does not make you forget reality or forget to be grateful for what you have.

Hi All,
What are some natural roofing options you can think of? I'm looking for alternatives.

Steel - fairly inert, but can come with some nasty coatings
Slate - natural, expensive, not easy to make or find
Wood shingle - natural, can be expensive, possible for someone to manufacture and install themselves

What other options are there?

Another vote for maple syrup, maple sugar, and honey.

It's been a while since I've seen this video, but its from Jack Spirko on redesigning his aviary where he kept quail. Not sure if you could get some ideas? I've never kept quail. but it seemed like a fairly easy shape.

Welcome to Permies!

I too used a 1/2 mesh for some of my garden beds. I did not use that size for any particular reason... simply that I had it handy.

I never went as deep as you are though. I just did the top 6-8" so it was easier to transplant. Here in Maine, I'm pretty sure we grow rocks, so I didn't go any deeper. I just worked on my soil health, and it seems to have helped the roots get to where they need to go at that depth.

Speaking of oil and mosquitoes... it wasn' that long ago that people would spread oil on top of the ponds to stop mosquitoes finishing their lifecycle.

Interestingly I came across a recent article about using vegetable oil instead for a "safe" alternative. I'm not sure how I feel about spreading vegetable oil over the top of a pond.

I think you can make blue from siberian pea shrub leaves. Not sure what color. Indigo is probably easier :)

That is interesting. When we got some of my wife's art professionally framed, it did not have tape, but had brown paper that was glued flat across the back from frame edge to frame edge. I assume the tape would be for helping to hold the matte in place without using glue?
