Biography
I have been living in Costa Rica for 20 years and bought land 10 years ago. With my Tico husband we have been planting beans, corn and rice and are almost completely self sufficient. We will be using the ancient Milpa method on a half acre area to demonstrate how little water is needed and without herbicides... The climate has changed and our neighbors need help.

We give a brooding hen about 16 eggs & mark them with a permanent marker & check daily to see if another hen has laid an egg in the nest & remove it.

Sounds like you're on the right track! I have started drinking a chia drink in the morning .... The chia seeds are FULL of nutrition, filling & energizing, and many use this for weight loss. Even sweetened with sugar or honey it still might be a good substitute for the soda.

I live in an area where there is a very dry season and a wet season and have learned what works in each.  An e-booklet was given to me by the American author who lives in Nicaragua. The booklet  shows in detail how to plant a Milpa garden. Essentially you build long wide rows in which the ditch in between is blocked on either end to retain any moisture. At least 6 inches of mulch is placed on top of the rows and is never tilled under. You can place starts by separating the mulch & you can separate a tiny row to put seeds directly in the dirt.
We go from Nov. to May without rain, and using this system I had my summer garden using very little water.
Good Luck!

Growing turmeric & giving it away to whoever needs it is definitely one of my favorite pleasures!

I live in Costa Rica on the Pacific side. A friend of mine has a howler monkey rescue center in Nosara. The monkeys are brought to her from all over the country....most commonly an orphan whose mother has been bar b cued on electric wires. The monkeys are raised and those that are able are released back into the wild. The release ranch in Norsara is over populated now & we have talked about building a new release center here on my ranch up in the mountains above Nosara. They would have access to over 1500 hectares (1 hectare=2.46 acres) of forested land.
What I am wondering is if you have any connections with people who would be willing to donate to build the holding pen here. The monkeys are kept in a very large cage with individual sleeping platforms for 45 days and fed (as always) only what they will be grazing on in the wild. then the door is opened and they are fed until they venture off.
Donations could be made directly to the sanctuary so as to be certain where the money is going.
If you have ANY ideas that could help me with this I would be most grateful
Thank you

Are you taking turmeric for your lymes disease? I have a friend with lymes and she is doing quite well by taking turmeric every day. For repellant you can add garlic to your diet and it will help. If you are not taking turmeric I would suggest you begin NOW. It is an antibiotic, anitinflamatory and antidepressant ... If you can get fresh roots that is great....you can even grow them yourself...in a pot if need be. Powder is great too and is 2000x's more potent if taken with black pepper. The root makes a very tasty tea....slice or grate 3 or 4 finger pieces & boil in 3 cups of water. Let sit a bit & drink several times a day 1/2 cup ( keeps in the fridge)..... You can grate it on food or mix in a smoothie.
