Hi,
Here are some photos of a plant growing next to my house near Boston, MA. They are in rocky soil next to a stone foundation. The pictures were taken May 7 and May 12. We've had lots of rain over the past 6 weeks & temperatures have been locked in at 50 F during that time period. Can any of you identify the plant? Is it hawkweed?
Thanks!
Certainly looks like Lactuca virosa to me, if the underside of the leaves AREN'T hairy, which they don't seem to be.
Extract the sap through slits in the stem while it is in flower, as an orally ingested pain reliever. I know a fellow that cut up a plastic straw to make a harvesting trough, catching the sap.
