I want to learn about the types of edible/medicinal mushrooms and how to grow them for market. I'd like to know your recommendations for books for both beginner and intermediate level.

Organic mushroom farming and mycoremediation by Trade Cotter. A more layman's version than Paul's books. Also focuses on off grid low tech growing.

Find a wild mushroom book for your area, if there is one for Kansas there should be one for just about anywhere.

As for growing them, it is better IMO to figure out what substrate you want to use and then figure out what to grow. I can't get organic straw but have nearly unlimited access to nearly free sawdust (just costs me gas to go get it), so that changes how and what I grow.

Hi all,

Reviving an old thread.

I've been browsing fungi book lists. Due to funding at the moment I need to limit myself to just one. I'm a complete beginner at growing mushrooms (first they're for eating, later on I'd like to try out mycoremediation for some of the urban soils we have here).

What is your number one favourite mycology book for a beginner?
