Hello everyone,

I’m new here so I hope it’s ok to create this type of post.

My name is Charlotte and my friend Sophie and I have just launched a new platform (which is free of charge) for community resilience, self-sustainability and disaster risk management. It’s called Thrivespring - https://thrivespring.com/.

At the moment, it’s only available for registration in the US, Canada and the UK (to keep it manageable while we learn how to run a community platform) but it will soon be available in other countries. But you can certainly check it out now no matter where you’re located!

To start, we have launched with just two main features - a resources library, and a community resilience projects noticeboard. More features will be added down the road.

Do you have an idea for a project that will help to make your community more resilient? Please post it on Thrivespring!

The noticeboard is where project creators / leaders and community organizations can share details about their projects and request volunteers, resources, donations, fundraisers, sponsors and partners. Projects can be new, ongoing, or completed, and need to fit into one of the following categories:

- Preparedness & Mitigation (eg. flood action groups; community emergency hubs)
- Emergency Response (eg. evacuation assistance; search and rescue)
- Recovery (eg. post-disaster “shop local” campaigns; neighbourhood clean-up crews)
- Food Production and Distribution (eg. urban farming; community supported agriculture; community food gardens; surplus food rescue)
- Water Security (eg. rainwater harvesting; water recycling systems)
- Local Energy (eg. renewable energy microgrids)
- Communications (eg. wireless mesh networks; amateur radio)
- Community Assistance (eg. running errands for seniors during Covid; lost pets search groups)
- Transportation (eg. ride sharing; community transport)
- Local Exchange (eg. time-banking; LETS)
- Health Initiatives (eg. community mental health support)
- Community Funding (eg. provision of funds to local projects within any of the above categories)

In addition to helping you find volunteers, etc. your listing on Thrivespring just might inspire other communities to set up similar projects of their own. It will also help demonstrate the usefulness of this kind of platform at a time when community resilience is more important than ever.

So we really hope you join us!

Best wishes,

Charlotte

PS - a small favour to ask - if you do sign up, please be sure to share a bit of info on your profile such as your relevant interests, to encourage others to do the same! And an image would be great! Thanks :)

We’ve actually just opened up Thrivespring to the US so feel free to register and post a community resilience project if you’re involved with one or even if you just have an idea for an initiative that will help to make your community more resilient.

Hey Charlotte. Cool concept! My first (raw) impression was that it would be helpful to quickly narrow down projects in my general area. Best of luck!

Thanks for the feedback Douglas! It’s currently possible to do a text search for specific locations, but if enough people want to be able to do a location search using a drop down menu with state/region and city then we can definitely add those filters.

Let me know if you have any other suggestions - much appreciated!!

And if you hear of anyone in your area with an idea for a new project, please send them to the site! It’s really tricky getting people to sign up when it’s so quiet, but I definitely think that cool new projects must come first, or there’s not much reason to join for now. Which is why we’re resorting to bribery on Twitter! :)
